  • The size of the job, such as how many bedrooms your current home has.
  • The addresses you're moving between, so we can plan the route and timing.

Book Your Parking in Advance

Dulwich's quieter residential streets can still be tight for parking on moving day, especially around the village and Lordship Lane. If your street has permit or pay-and-display bays only, arrange a suspension so our van can park close to the door. Southwark Council handles parking suspensions in the area and asks you to apply at least five working days before the move, so book early. We're happy to advise on what your move in Dulwich will need.

Dulwich House Move Checklist

A little planning takes the stress out of any move in Dulwich. We've put together a house mover's checklist for Dulwich residents, covering the weeks before moving day, from notifying utilities and redirecting post to packing room by room. It's the same routine we recommend to everyone booking removals in Dulwich, so nothing slips through the cracks.

Dulwich

Why We Like Moving In Dulwich

Dulwich sits in the Borough of Southwark and is known for its village feel and period properties, particularly around the well-preserved Dulwich Village. These homes draw many young families, who often value the extra help of a full-service removals company to take the stress out of moving. Dulwich is also popular with younger people and professionals, thanks to the restaurants and nightlife around Lordship Lane and Rosendale Road. If your schedule is busy, you can book our shorter half-hour slots and pay only for the time you need, or arrange an evening move so you don't have to take time off work.

The South Circular gives Dulwich good connections to the rest of London while keeping traffic out of the smaller residential streets, which makes moving in and out easier. Parking is managed by Southwark Council, which can suspend restrictions so the removal van can use a bay near your property. You'll need to apply at least five working days before the move.

From the period homes around the village to the flats off Lordship Lane, we're often asked to carry out house clearances across Dulwich. We can handle the work even when you can't be there. With Dulwich College and other schools nearby, and good links to London's universities, there's steady demand for smaller, flexible moves, and our man and van service is ideal for student removals in Dulwich. Dulwich removals, frequently asked questions

How much does a removal in Dulwich cost?

We charge a simple hourly rate rather than a fixed day rate, so you only pay for the time your move actually takes. One man and a van is £55 + VAT per hour, two men and a van £75 + VAT per hour, and three men and a van £95 + VAT per hour. As a guide, a typical two-bedroom move in Dulwich takes around five to six hours including travel. For an accurate figure, ask us for a free no-obligation quote or a video assessment of your property.

How long will my move in Dulwich take?

Most two-bedroom properties take two to three hours to load and one to two hours to unload, plus the driving time between the two addresses. Access makes a real difference: stairs, lifts and how far the van has to park from your door all add time. Tell us about both properties when you book and we will give you a realistic estimate rather than an optimistic one.

How much notice do you need to book a move in Dulwich?

As much as you can give us, booking as soon as your date is confirmed is the surest way to get the slot you want. That said, we keep our schedule as flexible as we can and we regularly take on moves at a few days' notice, so it is always worth asking even if your date is close.

Do I need to book a parking bay suspension in Dulwich?

If you have a driveway or off-street parking at both addresses, no. Otherwise we strongly recommend one: the closer the van can park, the faster the job goes and the less it costs you. Suspensions are arranged through the local council for Dulwich and usually need several working days' notice, so apply as soon as your date is fixed, and remember to arrange one at the address you are moving to as well.

Are Volition Removals insured?

Yes. We carry £30,000 of goods-in-transit cover and £1m of public liability insurance as standard. If you are moving something worth more than the standard cover, tell us in advance and we will extend it for your job. Most household contents policies exclude damage in transit, which is exactly the gap this cover fills.

Do I need to be there on moving day?

No. Most customers prefer to be there, but we can carry out the whole move in your absence as long as we have access to both properties, keys, entry codes and alarm details arranged in advance. Tell us where things should go and we will unload into the right rooms.

Can you pack for me, and do you supply materials?

Yes. Packing is a standard service charged at the same hourly rate, and we can supply boxes, tape and protective materials ahead of the day. We can pack a whole property or just the awkward parts, kitchens, glassware and artwork are the usual candidates.

Do you dismantle furniture and disconnect appliances?

We dismantle and reassemble beds and flat-pack furniture as a matter of course, and we can build items for your new home too. Please disconnect washing machines and dishwashers, and defrost the fridge and freezer, the day before if you can. If you would rather not, ask us and a member of the team will do it on the day.

Is a man and van service big enough for a larger home?

Yes. We run 3.5t Luton box vans rather than small transit vans, and the service scales, for a larger property we simply put more crew and more vehicles on the job. Three- and four-bedroom houses are routine work for us.

Do you offer storage while I move?

Yes. Storage is useful when your dates do not line up, when you are downsizing, or when you would rather move in stages. We can store what you do not need immediately and deliver it on to your new address when you are ready for it.

Do you take a deposit, and when is the balance due?

We take a 25% deposit for domestic moves and 50% for business moves to secure your date. The balance is due on completion, once everything has been unloaded at your new address. We accept credit and debit cards.

Do you work weekends?

Yes. Weekend availability is more limited and is charged at a 10% surcharge, so a midweek move is usually better value, but if Saturday or Sunday is the only date that works, book early and we will do our best to fit you in.

What happens if I need to change or cancel my move?

Moving dates slip; we understand that. Change or cancel with 11 or more days' notice and there is no charge, if you cancel outright, your deposit is returned within 10 working days. With 10 days' notice or fewer, the deposit covers the booking we have held for you.
