Where To Source Green Home Grants For Energy Saving Homes

If you live in London and intend to move house soon, you should consider modelling your new house to become an energy-saving home. Not only will you get incredible savings in the long run on your power bills, but you will also be contributing to the ecological sustainability of our universe by cutting down on carbon emissions.

Besides that, you may be eligible for a home grant of up to £10,000, under the Green Homes Grant Scheme to help you make your home energy efficient.

What is the Green Homes Grant Scheme

The Green Homes Grant Scheme enables homeowners and landlords to receive grants towards making changes in their houses aimed at energy efficiency. The UK Government introduced the £2 Billion plan in July 2020. The grants will be given in the form of vouchers and will cover up to two-thirds of the cost of the energy-saving measures implemented. Low-income households may receive grants of up to £10,000 to cover the entire cost of the improvements.

Supported Energy Installations

The scheme has detailed the energy-saving installations for which house owners and landlords are eligible for the vouchers. These installations are insulations for a solid wall, floor and roofs, air or ground source heat pumps, and solar thermal installation.

Also included among the eligible installations are double or triple glazing glass installations, fixing energy-efficient doors and heating controls, or thermostats for hot water or appliance tanks.

Under the scheme, homeowners will be advised and get recommendations from the Simple Energy Advice (SEA) service, on the kind of energy-saving measures that they should make.

Applying for the Home Grants Scheme

The scheme’s application details are yet to be made public, but more information will be out in September 2020. However, the Simple Energy Advice Service will likely advise applicants on the appropriate energy-saving home improvements to receive grants under the Home Grants Scheme. The Simple Energy Advice service can also advise on eligibility for other national and local grants.

When a homeowner has received advice on the appropriate energy-saving measures to put in place, they will approach approved Trustmark and Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registered businesses from their region. The tradespeople’s accreditation will also ensure that your installations have been carried out by high calibre professionals, giving you peace of mind and a guarantee on quality.

When the scope of works has been ascertained, and the grants application is approved, the homeowners will then contract the approved and registered tradespeople. The homeowner or landlord will have to pay a third of the arranged energy-saving improvements, and the vouchers will cover two-thirds of the cost.

The Green Homes Grants Scheme is an initiative that is highly welcome and will lead to savings of thousands of pounds and guarantee energy efficiency and a reduction of the global carbon footprint. For new homeowners or those keen on moving into a new home soon, this scheme is timely. It can significantly subsidize building costs through the vouchers and offer free energy consultancy from the Simple Energy Advice service.
